Zoltar Says Make Your Wish
workshop – 240 min | Feb 3 – 14:00
Over the past decade, along with the rise of new technologies and the increasing attention to wicked problems, the scope of design has gone beyond the product domain towards a more systemic approach. Designers have today the responsibility to make sense of a complex and changing world, designing not just for the present but also for the future. To fulfil this role designers need to build their own toolbox that allows them to apply multiple approaches according to each project’s situation and time frame.
Drawing on Speculative design practice, the workshop aims at exploring ways for practitioners, educators and designers to expand their toolbox as well as envisioning new preferable futures.
In this hands-on session, people can experience different design techniques, use a tailored generative card deck (http://futurish.cards) that will enable participants to play with scenarios and artefacts from the future, and gain practical experience of the speculative design process. The three important things people will take home from the workshop: - A deep dive into speculative design practise - A dynamic hands-on experience of speculative design methods along with a co-creative workshop format - A fresh future-forward perspective on how speculative design practise might enrich the design toolbox
