Goals

The Education Summit is not only about transmitting knowledge, but about sharing with peers. Our goal is to generate discussion that fosters new ideas and connections among IxDA members. For the first time this year, we will frame and distribute a record of Education Summit events and outcomes in the form of a publication to last beyond the summit.

Confluence

In line with Interaction Week theme, Confluence, we invite proposals for roundtables, workshops and short-form presentations to focus on the confluence of independant, opposite, corresponding or complementary concepts or areas of practice — ideally, challenging ones.

For example:

Format

In order to foster discussion, we invite submissions that follow one of three formats.

Discussion roundtables (90 minutes):

Your submission should propose how you will facilitate a discussion among participants, focusing questions and prompts around a confluence topic (see above). Please include whether participants will need to prepare to contribute content to the discussion and how you will report on the outcomes. Summit attendees will have the opportunity to sign up for roundtables well in advance of the summit.

Workshops (90 minutes or 150 minutes):

Rather than a long-form presentation, your submission should propose activities that demonstrate new methods or pedagogy, or engage attendees to explore a particular confluence topic (see above) that result in an outcome or proposed next steps.

Short-form presentations (10 minutes + 5 minutes Q&A):

Your submission should outline an interaction design education topic on the theme of Confluence (see above). We are especially looking for presentations that propose or provoke independent, opposite, or corresponding concepts related to interaction design education.

Education Summit Exhibition and Publication

With your submission, please propose a delivery format for outcomes that can be shared via:

  1. the Interaction 18 expo floor or short report from the main stage
  2. an Education Summit publication.

Exhibition materials may be physical or digital. Publication guidelines will be sent after submissions are accepted.

Submission process

  • Deadline : November 21st anywhere on the planet (i.e midnight UTC-12).
  • Follow this link to complete your submission package. We will only accept online submissions through this process.
  • Invitations will be sent to chosen workshop organizers, discussion leads, and speakers by December 12th.

Review process

Your submission will be peer reviewed by experts in the IxDA community. We are reviewing based on quality, the speaker’s experience, and how well it aligns with the conference themes and other presentations.

Lead a workshop or roundtable and receive extra benefit

In addition to contributing to the field of interaction design education, speakers, workshop and roundtable facilitators will receive complimentary admission to the Summit. One lead per workshop or roundtable will receive an additional 50% discount on admission to Interaction 18.
